פַּיְיטָן, פַּיְיטָנָא, פַּיְיטָנָהm. (פיט, v. פִּיּוּט) speaker, esp. (by adaptation to ποιήτης) composer of alphabetical acrostics, poet. Lev. R. to III, 6 פייטויי (corr. acc.). Ib. to I, 1 הדין פ׳ כד עבידוכ׳ when a poet writes , v. אלפ״א; Koh. R. to I, 13 פּוֹיְיטָנָא.Pl. (h.) פַּיְיטָנִים. Yalk.
